For many years, long before my time, it was well know throughout the family that the store which Michael Miller ran had an official name, but shortly after opening it became known simply as Miller's. I was always very curious as to what the real name was but had never found anyone that new it other than Miller's. Finally I came across a book named Webb's Scranton Directory 1886. It was complied by Wanton S. Webb of New York City and Jacksonville, FL in the year 1886. It was for sale at M. Norton, 322 Lackawanna Avenue and John F. McDermott, 524 Lackawanna Avenue. Booksellers and Stationers. Cost was $5.00. On page 419 of this book I found a listing for Michael Miller which reads as follows; Miller, Michael. proprietor Miller's Summer Garden, grocer, saloon and undertaking 434 and 436 Cedar ave, h do. At the bottom of the page is their advertisement. I have enclosed a copy of the page below.
