Anthony P. Ciardi, 96, a resident of Scranton since 1928, died Saturday evening in the VNA Hospice of Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness. His wife of 60 years, the former Dorothy Hammen, died July 19, 2000.
Born Jan. 8, 1908, in Castellabate, Italy, son of the late Gennaro and Emilia Guida Ciardi, he came to this country at the age of 5, first settling in West New York, N.J., where he attended public schools. During his high school years, he was an amateur radio operator and later a graduate of the National Radio Institute. He was a member of the Alumni Association, Washington, D.C., the Court Street United Methodist Church, the PA Society of Public Accountants, the National Society of Public Accountants, and was a past president of the Scranton Chapter, Institute of Internal Auditors. He was an auditor for the L.F. Investment Club, Wilkes-Barre, a former office manager for Wilson and Co., plant accountant for Poloron Products, internal auditor for Leslie Fay Inc., and engaged in public accounting prior to his semiretirement. For the past 25 years, he worked as a consultant in the accounting department for the United Neighborhood Centers of Lackawanna County, Inc.
He wrote articles for stamp and record collectors, radio hobbyists and the accounting profession. His love and friendship were extended to many and will always be remembered in the hearts of all those his life touched.
Surviving are a daughter, Elaine Norton, Massillon, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Italo, Louis, Joseph and Al; and two sisters, Florence Olivelli and Anna Tatarian.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, pastor of Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Entombment, Fairview Memorial Park.
