
Walter S. Laskowski

Walter S. "Doc" Laskowski, 85, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Thursday morning at Allied Skilled Services after an illness.
Born in Scranton, son of the late William and Mary Gienko Laskowski, he was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Greenwood section of Moosic; American Legion Post 568; and the Disabled American Veterans. An Army veteran of World War II, he participated in the Normandy invasion and received several decorations and citations, including the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with one bronze arrowhead. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the Scranton School District at South Scranton Junior High School.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are three brothers, Henry and Vincent, both of Scranton; and Frank, Harrisburg; a sister, Alice Kuchinski, Moscow; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley, Leo and Joseph; and three sisters, Stella Laskowski, Helen Laskowski and Jean Rafalko.
The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with Mass at 10 in St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, 3335 Greenwood Ave., Moosic. Interment, parish cemetery.
