Robert K. Buttner, of the Bellevue section of Scranton, died Monday in Community Medical Center after a lengthy illness. His wife, the former Alice Jarbala, died Jan. 27, 2001.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late George and Helen Leyh Buttner. He was a lifelong member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, and a graduate of Scranton Technical High, class of 1948. After high school, he worked for the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad, and retired working as a union carpenter out of Local Union 261, Scranton. He served as a sergeant with the US Army's 14th Engineer Corp. during the Korean War, were he received the Korean Service medal with 2 bronze service stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of the Waldorf Park German American Federation, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Major Edward J. Poch Post 948, South Scranton., and the VFW Rabiega-Gorgol Post 3451, Scranton.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Attorney Robert M. and Monique Buttner, Scranton; a brother, Frederick H. Buttner, Scranton; a grandson, Alec, Scranton; a granddaughter, Ava Grace, Scranton; an uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George J. Buttner.
The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with services by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, pastor of Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Interment, St. John's Byzantine Cemetery, Scranton.
