Fred H. Deiter

    Fred H. Deiter, aka radio personality Scottie Young, 52, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Tuesday evening in the Moses Taylor Hospital ICU unit after a brief illness. He and his wife, the former Emilie S. Fioravanti, would have celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary Sept. 13, 2004.

    Born in Scranton, son of Harold S. Deiter, Scranton, and the late Lena M. Baer Deiter, he was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church; a 1969 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and had a radio engineers license. He worked 38 years in the radio industry as a radio announcer for WSGD, WBAX, the Merv Griffin Station, WSCR, WWDL, and was station owner of WKXP in Bloomsburg. He was roller rink operator at Skateaway, Taylor, for 25 years, and the past five years, he had been employed by Harper Collins.

    He was a great husband, father and son who had a great personality. He always saw the good in people and had a zest for life and enjoyed everything he did. He was known as a happy-go-lucky guy.

    Also surviving are a son, Fred "D.J.," at home; nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt.

    The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with services by the Rev. Lester E. Stephenson, pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery, Dunmore.

    Friends may call Friday, 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. until the time of services.
