David W. Paterson

    David W. Paterson, 88, a resident of Effort for the past 20 years, formerly of Connecticut for 39 years, and a former Scranton resident, died Thursday afternoon in the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center after a brief illness. He and his wife, the former Ruth E. Hafner, would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary Aug. 31.

    Born in Dalton, son of the late of Homer W. and Mildred O. Parkton Paterson he was a graduate of Dalton High School. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a pattern engineer with Jenkins Brothers Industrial Valves, Bridgeport, Conn. He oversaw the design and development of all the valves used in the World Trade Center buildings.

    Also surviving are a son, David W. Jr., Effort; a daughter, Anita M. and husband Jan Berger, North Huntingdon; a brother, Warren K. Paterson, Washington, N.J.; two grandchildren, Vanessa Hamilton, Columbus, Ohio, and Stephanie Miller, Chicago; two great-grandchildren, Erin and Sara Hamilton, Columbus, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert L. and Fred L.

    The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with services by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, pastor, Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Interment, Shoemaker Cemetery, Dalton.
