Ralph D. Hoffman

    Ralph D. Hoffman, 86, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Monday morning at home after a brief illness. His wife is the former Eleanor Milberger. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 5.

    Born in Dunmore, son of the late Anthony and Mary McLaughlin Hoffman, he was a member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater with the 1268th Combat Engineers. He was a member of the American Legion Maj. Edward J. Poch Post 948, South Scranton, and the National Rifle Association, and enjoyed fishing. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a building superintendent for JC Penney.

    Also surviving are a son, Ralph D. Jr., Scranton; a daughter, Linda C. and husband Lewis Lorinsky, Stonington, Conn.; a granddaughter, Jaclyn Lorinsky, Stonington, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel and Geraldine Hoffman, and four brothers, Harry, Robert, Ellwood and George.

    The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with services by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, pastor, Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
