Sophie M. Slagan

Sophie M. Slagan, 89, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Sunday morning in Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John and Josephine Sawaska Fialkowski, she was a member of St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Church, a member of the Ukrainian Club, and prior to retirement, was employed locally in the garment industry.
Surviving are three daughters, Jeanne Sienkiewicz and Patricia Hallock, both of Scranton, and Evelyn Taylor, N.J.; two sisters, Gertrude Noll, Florence, Mass., and Antoinette Cimino, Scranton; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Oren J. Beavers, who died Dec. 30, 1968; two brothers, Stanley and Joseph; and a sister, Edna Dabelko.
The funeral will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
There will be no pubic calling hours.
