Bonita G. Smith

    Bonita G. "Bonnie" Smith, 52, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Tuesday evening at Hershey Medical Center. She and her husband, Thomas J. Smith, would have celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on Sept. 22.

    Born in Scranton, daughter of Grace Ott Burke, Scranton, and the late Thomas M. Burke Sr., who died July 9, 2003, she was a 1970 graduate of Scranton Central High School and a 1973 graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing. A member of Nativity of Our Lord Church, she worked as graduate nurse at Moses Taylor Hospital and then was employed as a certified pharmacy technician for the past 20 years by CVS Pharmacy, first on Meadow Avenue and recently on Moosic Street.

    She was a dedicated and loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Her greatest pleasures were shopping, gardening and spending time vacationing with her family. Her pride and joy was her grandson.

    Also surviving are a son, Christopher J. Smith and his wife, Lori, Jessup; two daughters, Kimberly G. Smith, Scranton; and Kelly E. Clark and her husband, Doug, Scranton; two brothers, Thomas M. Burke and his wife, Marie, Moscow; and Michael H. Burke and his wife, Nancy, Clarks Summit; a grandson, Matthew C. Smith, Jessup; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

    She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Peggy.

    The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with Mass at 9:30 in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard St. Entombment, Cathedral Cemetery.

    Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory in honor of her father, Thomas M. Burke Sr., to the Leukemia Society of America, 800 Corporate Circle #100, Harrisburg, 17110-9346.
