Judith Kay Buskovitz
December 14, 2004
Judith Kay "Judy" Buskovitz, a longtime resident of Scranton, formerly of West Wyoming, died Tuesday morning in the VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She and her husband Michael Buskovitz would have celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary Jan. 19, 2005.
Born Sept. 9, 1942, in Scranton, daughter of the late Lewis
R. and Marion Lewis Winans, she was a member of the Bethania Presbyterian
Church, and a graduate of West Wyoming High School and Nesbitt School of
Practical Nursing. She was a graduate of Marywood College's first nursing
class, receiving a bachelor's of science in nursing. A member of Kappa Gamma
Phi and Sigma Theta Tau, and a member of the original steering committee and
former secretary for the chapter for three years, she was also a former
member of the Harmony chapter and the Order of the Eastern Star, Wyoming.
She had been employed by Nesbitt Hospital, Kingston, and retired from CMC,
where she was one of the first nurses in their emergency room, and one of
the first nurses in the neuro-special care unit. After retiring from CMC,
she was employed by the Jewish Home.
She will be sorely missed not only by her family and friends,
but all whose lives were touched by a loving woman. She knows that God has
released her pain and welcomed her spirit home. She loved her grandchildren,
who gave her a reason to live the past few years. She enjoyed reading,
crosswords, and decorating her home for each season and holiday. She loved
traveling before her health problems. Her first passions were nursing and
caring for her family and friends. She is a self-described, born-again
Christian, and provides an example of what we should be with God's love. She
was very devoted to her faith.
Also surviving are a son, Johnson C. Miers III, Charles
City, Va.; two stepsons, Michael Buskovitz Jr. and Mark Buskovitz, both of
Scranton; a stepdaughter, Lisa Michaels, Scranton; a brother, and his wife,
Dr. Lewis E. and Mary Winans, Reading; two daughters-in-law, Nancy Slack
Buskovitz, Scranton, and Ellen Krantz Buskovitz, Mayfield; three
grandchildren, Michael Buskovitz III, Scranton, and Vincent M. Buskovitz and
Dana Jeannie Buskovitz, both of Mayfield; nieces and a nephew; grandnieces
and a grandnephew.
The funeral and committal services will be Thursday at 8
p.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., by the Rev. Jo
Ann Germershausen, pastor, Bethania Presbyterian Church. Interment will be
held privately at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Thursday, 5 until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Bethania Presbyterian Church, Landis Street and Main Avenue, Scranton, 18504.
