Mabel Ann Hicks

    Mabel Ann Hicks, 93, a resident of Spring Brook Township and a former longtime resident of

South Scranton, died early Monday morning at the home of her son and daughter-in-law. She was the widow of Leroy R. Hicks, who died April 27, 1971.

    Born in Scranton, daughter of the late William and Henrietta Meister Evans, she was member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, and a member of the After 50 Club at St. Mary's Church. Prior to retirement, she was owner and operator of Mabel Ann's Beauty Salon, South Scranton.


    Surviving are a son, Leroy "Roy" Hicks and wife Carol, with whom she resided; three grandsons, Jeffrey Hicks and wife Lauren, Moscow; William Hicks and wife Rhonda, Moscow, and Daniel Hicks and wife Karen, Madisonville; six great-grandchildren, Amanda, Joshua, Caleb, Sierra, Christian and Stephanie; nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Hicks Rudesyle; two brothers, William and Harold; six sisters, Esther Thomas, Mildred Davis, Myra Leonard, Dorothy Evans, Adelaide Peck and Verna Jones, and a special friend, Raymond Odgers.

    The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with services by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, pastor, Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Arthur W. Davis, her nephew, retired pastor with the United Methodist Ministry. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
