Morris T. Jackson, Jr.

    Morris T. Jackson, Jr., 52, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died unexpectedly Thursday at home.


    He was born in Scranton, the beloved son of the late Morris and Frances Parker Jackson, Sr..  He was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. church and previously served as a member of the finance committee. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School class of 1970 and a 1988 graduate of Keystone Junior College. He was a member of the Scranton Kiwanis Club, a 2004 graduate of Leadership Lackawanna and served as a member of the Leadership Lackawanna Alumni Council. He was a Junior Achievement advisor for 12 years, he served on the board of directors for Scranton Tomorrow, the Downtown Senior Center and Scranton Primary Health Care.

 

    He was active in numerous other civic and cultural organizations in Northeastern PA and served his community well. He was employed for 18 years at Techneglas, Inc., formerly Owens-Illinois as a computer programmer analyst and was employed by the City of Scranton as a recreation specialist. During his career, he worked various part time jobs including Sears, the Globe Store, PNC Bank, I.C.S., the Census Bureau and WEA Manufacturing.


    He loved his two cats, Cleo and Tina. His family and friends will remember him with nothing but fond memories.


    Survivors are a sister, Rachel Barrett, Scranton; 3 brothers, Edward Johnson and his wife Samruay, FL, Richard Jackson and his wife Joan, Factoryville, Gerry Kearney and his wife Elezibeth, TX; an uncle, Calvin Parker, Scranton; 2 aunts, Mary Parker, FL, Louise Williams, Scranton; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.


    He was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Jackson Waiters.


    The funeral will be Saturday with Services at 11 a.m. in the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 716 North Washington Avenue, Scranton, by the Rev. Andrew Newberry, pastor of the Bethel A.M.E. Church. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.


    Friends may call Friday 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue and Saturday 10 a.m. until time of service in the Bethel A.M.E. Church.
