Edward F.
Olenchak, 91, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Sunday evening in the Moses
Taylor Hospital VNA Hospice Inpatient unit, after an illness. He and his wife
the former Marie Kettel would have been married 68 years June 23, 2005.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Andrew and Estelle Levandowski
Olenchak. He attended Scranton Central High School, was a member of St. Mary of
the Assumption Church and for many years he was a Boy Scouts of America
scoutmaster for Troop #42, St Mary’s of the Assumption Church. A member of the
National Rifle Association, a gold card member and the oldest member of the
South Side Bachelors Club. He worked locally as a butcher and retired from
Schumacher's Meat Market, South Scranton.
He enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren, was an avid gardener and
fisherman who loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to
Canada.
Surviving are 3 sons, Richard, Moscow, Edward Jr., Mount Cobb and Jack,
Scranton; 3 daughters, Paula Fougeray, Lehighton, Marie Quinn, Falls Church, VA,
Donna Walsh, Scranton; a brother, Joseph, Scranton; 18 grandchildren, 17 great
grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Frank, Daniel and Tom; 2 sisters,
Florence Condefer and Ann Coyne.
The Funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc.,
436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s of the Assumption
Church, 430 River Street. Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Covington
Township.
