

Harold S. Deiter

Harold S. Deiter, 90, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Thursday morning
in the Lackawanna County Health Care Center, after a brief illness. He was the
widow of the former Lena M. Baer who died January 31, 1994.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Frederick and
Josephine Weichel Deiter. He was Class President and Class Valedictorian of
Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1933 and active with the reunion
committee. He was an active member of Saint Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
since 1954, a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army as a Staff
Sergeant with the 12th Armored Division’s 572nd Anti-Aircraft
Artillery-Auto-weapons Battalion, a member and active with the 572nd
Anti-Aircraft Artillery-Auto-weapons Battalion Association, which will be
holding its 60th annual reunion this year. He had been employed
for many years by the East Scranton Bank, which later became a branch of the
Penn Security Bank and Trust Company and prior to retirement he had been
employed by the Amoco Petroleum company.
He was a wonderful caring person, a great father and
grandfather, with old fashioned values who will be truly missed.
Surviving are a grandson, Fred “D.J.” Deiter, Scranton; a
daughter in law, Emilie S. Deiter, Scranton; a niece, Janet Budnovitch, Endicott,
NY; a sister in law, Catherine Deiter, Scranton.
He was preceded in death by a son, Fred H. Deiter, who died
June 1, 2004; 2 sisters, Romaine Howells and Evelyn Deiter; two brothers, Joseph
Deiter and Frederick Deiter.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 am in the Miller Bean
Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Services by the Reverend David A.
Searing, Pastor of Saint Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment, Forest
Hill Cemetery, Dunmore.
Friends may call Friday 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.
until time of service.
