Paul Robert "Slip" Kearney, 81, a resident of the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center for the past year, formerly of Madison Township and East Mountain, died late Wednesday evening in the Moses Taylor Hospital.
He was born and raised in the East Mountain section of
Scranton, the son of the late Christopher J. and Madeline Kuehner Kearney. He
graduated from Saint Mary's of the Assumption High School, attended the
University of Scranton and he served in the US Navy as a Aviation Machinist's
Mate Second Class during World War II. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena
Church, Moscow, a member of the Catholic Golden Age Club, a former member and
Treasurer of the Mountaineers Social Club, Scranton and bowled for many years on
the Holy Name of Jesus Church bowling team. Prior to retirement he was employed
by the Burschel Dairy Company.
He was a wonderful and kind person who always tried to help
anyone in need and was proud of his Irish heritage. He will be greatly missed by
his brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, godson and all who loved him.
Surviving a sister, Mary M. Buttner, Scranton; four brothers,
Edward "Etz" and Robert "Ange", both of Madisonville, Richard "Dick", Scranton,
Joseph "Mouse", Peckville; several nieces, nephews and his long time companion
Mary Munley of Archbald.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Delayo; 3 brothers, Christopher,
William and Lawrence.
The funeral will be Monday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home,
Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church.
Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Covington Township.
