

Robert E. Brown

Robert E. Brown, 82, a resident of Scranton, died early Saturday morning in the VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center. He and his wife, Angela Marshall Brown, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary August 27, 2005. They had a long and loving relationship.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Harry and Lottie
Dawson Brown. Prior to World War II he was employed by a defense contractor in
New Jersey. He served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Force 829th Bomb Squadron,
485th Bomb Group as a gunner on a B-24 Liberator and after being
shot down over the Adriatic Sea, he was taken prisoner of war and held at Stalag-Luft #4 in Germany. He was awarded several medals including the Purple
Heart. After 22 years of employment by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company
and serving two terms as President of the Insurance Workers Union, he pursued
what he loved to do best, stone work. His legacy is visible throughout Scranton
and the surrounding areas. He was a member of the South Scranton Retiree Club
where he enjoyed playing cards with his friends.
He always looked forward to his morning coffee with friends
and he especially loved doing things for his wife, children, grandchildren, and
great- grandchildren. His family was his world.
Also surviving are, two daughters, Karen McNulty and her
husband Thomas, Debora Wetzel and her husband Kevin, all of Scranton; five
grandchildren, Erin Harris and husband Kevin, Kathleen McNulty, Sean Wetzel,
Shannon Wetzel, all of Scranton, Kelly Wetzel, Easton; four great-grandchildren,
Marrissa, Kara, Kevin and Kiernan Harris; four sisters, Joyce Dietrick & Grace
Murray, both of Scranton, Joan Derbin, Throop, and Marge Cook, Tunkhannock, many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Sam, Ronald,
Jerome, Richard, and Harry Brown; and 2 sisters, Romayne Jonas and Charlotte
Diamond.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Miller Bean
Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services by the Rev. Arthur W. Davis,
pastor of the First Congregational Church of Christ, Taylor. Interment with full
military honors, Italian American Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call Monday 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions
