
Robert M. Pope

Robert M. Pope, 84, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Tuesday evening in the
VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center
after a brief illness. His wife the former Lillian E. Snyder died August 2,
1999.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Richard and
Marion Ackland Pope. He served with the US Army during World War II, was a
member of the Independent order of the Odd Fellows and the Veterans of Foreign
Wars, Eynon. After retiring from General Electric he was affiliated as a
mechanic at Pope & Son’s Body Shop.
He was a loving father, grandfather who will be missed by his
family and friends. His companion and loyal friend was his dog, Pepper. He was
an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Schoonover and her husband
Aaron Jr., Hanes City, FL; 3 sons, Robert G. and his wife Patricia, Scranton,
Richard E. and his wife Diane, Scranton, James A. and his wife Kathy, Dunmore; 5
grandchildren, Michele, Jeffrey & Amy Pope, all of Scranton, Bradely Pope,
Scranton, Aaron Schoonover III, FL.
The funeral service and interment in the Forest Hill
Cemetery, Dunmore will be held privately, with Services by the Rev. Arthur W.
Davis, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Christ, Taylor.
Friends may call Thursday 5 to 9 p.m. in the Miller Bean
Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions
can be made in his memory to the VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County, 301 Delaware
Avenue, Olyphant, PA 18447-1531.
