Joseph Wechsler

    Joseph W. Wechsler, a resident of Scranton, died Wednesday afternoon in the Moses Taylor VNA Hospice Unit after a brief illness. He and his wife the former Catherine Cronkey celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary August 5, 2005.

    He was born April 25, 1916 in Scranton, the son of the late Joseph and Frances Zwick Wechsler. He was the Valedictorian of St. Mary's High School class of 1934. He had been employed for 45 years at Consolidated Molded Products as a supervisor. After his retirement, he was employed by H & R Block as a tax professional. He was a life member of the German American Federation, holding the office of treasurer for many years. He was a founding member of Holy Name of Jesus Church, serving his parish community in numerous ministries for over 60 years.

    He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and his greatest source of pride was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchild.

    Also surviving are his daughters, Elly Lesniewski, Pasadena, MD, Mary Ann Noto and her husband, John, Fairfax, VA, Cathy Ebinger and her husband, Rick, Sewell, NJ; a son, Joseph and his wife Cathy, Scranton; six grandchildren, Michael Noto, Tualatin, OR, Geoffrey Noto, Alexandria, VA, Christopher and Patrick Ebinger, Sewell, NJ and Drew and Aimee Wechsler, Scranton; a great grandchild, Alexander Noto, Tualatin, OR; a brother, Paul, Glendale, CA.

    He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Tim Lesniewski.

    The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, East Elm Street & Froude Avenue, celebrated by the Reverend Michael H. Marchetti. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
