Stephen Paul Travis, 61, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died early Friday morning in the VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He and his wife the former Jean M. Coggins celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary July 24, 2005.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Stephen and Theresa Mackarevich Travis. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and served with the US Navy aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Halsey during the Vietnam War. Prior to his illness he had been employed by Affiliated Warehouse. He was a longtime member of the Teamsters Union, Scranton Local #229.
He loved the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sons, Stephen P. Travis Jr., Taylor, Michael Travis, Scranton; two daughters, Terry Jenkins, Scranton, Debbie Lane, Springbrook Township; three sisters, Barbara Dougher, Scranton, Patricia Travis, Scranton, Joan Adams, Tampa, FL; 5 grandchildren, Paul Travis, Caitlin Travis, Jean Marie Jenkins, Sara Lane, Travis Lane; nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Molly Travis..
The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 10 in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 1501 Pittston Avenue. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
