
William J. Reed Sr.

William J. "Bill" Reed, Sr., a resident of Taylor, died Thursday morning at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He and his wife, the former Joan M. Gerrity were married 51 years February 13th.
He was born and raised in Avoca, the son of the late Clarence and Mary Hannon Reed. He attended St. Mary’s School, Avoca and graduated from Duryea High School. He was a active member of St. David’s Church, West Scranton, a US Navy veteran serving during WW II, a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, #6528, a life time member of the Naval Post, Port Jervis, NY, a life time member of United Transportation Union and he was a 4th degree St. Ann’s Assembly, Council 12297, Knights of Columbus. Prior to retirement he was employed as a trainman and conductor for Erie Conrail and New Jersey Transit.
Also surviving are a daughter, Theresa Terwilliger and her husband Richard, Front Royal, VA; 2 sons, William J. Reed Jr., and his wife Sharon, Town of Greenville, NY, Paul Reed and his wife Petra, Taylor; 2 Sisters, Lourdes Culkin and her husband Joseph, Wilson, NC, Rosemary Haddock and her husband Frank, Arlington, VA; a brother in law, Bernard Wendolski, Avoca; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca Reed, Cassidy Reed, Olivia Ross and Adrienne Schultz; a great grandson, Danny Ross; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Mary Wendolski, a grandson, Daniel Schultz.
The funeral will be Monday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, Scranton with Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. David’s Church, 2523 Jackson Street, Scranton Interment, will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Cathedral Cemetery.
