James J. "Jimmy" Johnson, 44, a lifelong resident of the East Mountain section of Scranton, died Wednesday evening at home.
He was born in Scranton the son of Kathryn A. Lechler Johnson, Scranton and the late Frank William Johnson. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School class of 1979 and a member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. A 1999 graduate of Lackawanna Junior College receiving an associates degree in Computer Information Systems and a 2003 graduate of Marywood University receiving a Bachelors degree in Computer / Information telecommunications. He was a Volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House of Scranton, the Steamtown National Historic Society, Moses Taylor Hospital and the Pittston Avenue Cemetery. Prior to his illness he was a sheet metal worker employed by Cox Sheet Metal.
He was well educated and always there to help at a moments notice, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his best friend and soul mate, Lillian Beavers, Scranton, 3 sisters, Irene Lucas, Germany, Kathy Gruszkiewicz, Factoryville, Cheryl Petrosky, Ledgedale; a niece, Ashley Johnson, 2 nephews, Joseph and Frank Johnson and a great nephew, Collin Kneiss.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Johnson and an infant brother Jeffrey; maternal grandparents, Walter R. and Hazel Mae Reese Lechler III; paternal grandparents, Frank G. and Irene Ludwig Johnson.
The funeral will be Tuesday with services at 11:30 a.m. in the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 437 Hickory Street, Scranton, by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, Pastor. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore. Family and friends attending the Funeral service are asked to go directly to the Church.
Friends may call Monday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue.
