Gertrude Irene Ort, 82, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning in her residence at Outlook Point. She was the widow of Martin Stephen Ort, who died on September 12, 2001.
She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Michael
and Frances Schultz Belasky, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, attended
Scranton Technical High School and was a member and former secretary of TOPS
(Taking Off Pounds Sensibly). Prior to retiring she had been employed locally in
the garment industry.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt who
enjoyed spending her time with her grandchildren. She corresponded with many Pen
Pal’s from around the globe and was an avid reader who enjoyed listening to
Classical music.
Surviving are 2 sons, Richard M. Ort, Danville, David M. Ort
and his wife Susan, Dunmore; 3 grandchildren, Martin D. Ort, Christopher M. Ort,
and Rebecca S. Ort, all of Dunmore; a goddaughter and niece, Tina Fisher,
Scranton; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Olga Fisher.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Miller Bean Funeral
Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul
Church, 1145 Providence Road. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington
Township.
