Gladys R. Panko, 85, a resident of the Allied Skilled Nursing Center for 14 years, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Sunday afternoon, in the Allied Skilled Nursing Center. She was the widow of George J. Panko Sr., they had been married for 51 years at the time of his death, December 16, 1992.
She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Peter and Viola Borger Michaeli, a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Scranton and a graduate of Dickson City High School. Her employment outside the home spanned many years including several as a waitress at the Castle Restaurant where she became known by many people, she worked for many years at Eureka Printing in their Quality Control Department and retired from the Holiday Manor Nursing Home where she was employed as a Certified Nurses Aide.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who dedicated her life to being kind and giving to others.
Surviving are 3 sons, Peter P. Panko and his wife Cheryl, Clarks Summit., George J. Panko Jr., and his wife Nancy L., Lockhaven, Ronald P., Palm Beach Gardens, FL; 4 grandchildren, Peter T. Panko, Timothy G. Panko, Ann Margaret Panko and Debra Jean Panko; 5 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Martin Sean Panko who died January 24, 1986; a sister, Dorothy Powell; 2 brothers, Robert Michaeli and Bernard Michaeli.
There will be a Blessing Service held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, Scranton. The interment will be held private at the convenience of the family, in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Friends may call Wednesday 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Railmen For Children, 1 Hudson Place, Hoboken, N.J. 07030.
