Catherine McGraw Deiter

    Catherine McGraw Deiter, 94, a longtime resident of South Scranton, died Sunday morning in the loving arms of her family, at the VNA Inpatient Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Frederick Deiter who died August 30, 1999, at the time of his death they had been married for 61 years.

    She was born in Scranton, May 14, 1911, the daughter of the late John and Grace Craven McGraw. She graduated from Scranton Public schools and was a graduate of the Lackawanna Business College. She was a member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, a longtime volunteer at blood drives for the American Red Cross and the Community Medical Center Auxiliary.

    She was an avid bowler and liked doing crossword puzzles. She was our beloved Aunt Kitty who will be dearly missed.

    Surviving are a sister, Grace Griggs, Dickson City; her nephew and godson, Thomas J. Griggs and his wife Patricia, Moscow; 2 great nieces, Amber Meinzer and her husband Christopher, Peckville, Bethany Griggs, Moscow; and a great great nephew, Christopher T. Meinzer, Peckville, cousins, nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert McGraw.

    The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Services by the Reverend M. Jon Eastwood, Pastor of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church. Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery, Dunmore.
