Eugene L. Warner

    Eugene L. Warner, 78, a resident of Scranton, died early Thursday morning at home after a brief illness. His wife is the former Rita Romanauskas. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary September 6, 2006.

    He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Joseph and Loretta Warner. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and attended Mount Saint Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, MD, where he enjoyed being part of their baseball team. He was a parishioner of St. Mary of Czestochowa, Moosic; a member of the Lincoln Heights chapter of the American Legion; and a member of the St. Stephen’s Booster Club and Bowling League. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the US Navy as a seaman second class. He retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot and prior to that had been employed by the Veterans Administration and the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C.

    He was happy being involved in youth sports. Eugene coached and managed the Moosic Little League and Teener League as well as several area basketball leagues.

    Also surviving is one sister, Dolores Muchnicki, Ft. Lauderdale; three sons, David Warner and his wife Rosemary, Harrisburg, Mark Warner, Mount Cobb, and Paul Warner, Elmhurst; two daughters, Sharon Kippycash and her husband Gregory, Mount Cobb, and Marie Warner-Shanaghan and her husband Kevin, Hanover; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryan, Kate and Maegan.

    He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Warner.

    A memorial service will be held Friday, February 10th, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 3335 Greenwood Avenue, Moosic.
