Wayne R. Wickel

    Wayne R. Wickel, 61, a resident of Madisonville, died early Thursday morning at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He and his wife, the former Barbara Schwartz would have celebrated 39 years of marriage April 14th.

    He was born in Scranton, the son Marion Eggerstorfer Wickel, Scranton and the late Robert Wickel. He was a charter member of the Glorious Church, Long Pond, active in the Men's Group and the Benevolent Committee. He was a Vietnam era veteran serving with the National Guard and a member of the American Legion Post #579, Moscow. Prior to his illness he was self employed as a carpenter and general contractor.

    He was a loving father and devoted grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and wanted only the best for his family. He had a strong faith that lead many people to the word. He was a die hard Steelers fan who also enjoyed fishing, working around the house and especially the outdoors.

    Also Surviving are 2 daughters, Sandralee Villani and her husband Scott, Peckville, Nadine Portonova-Anderson and her husband Matthew, Lake Ariel; a stepdaughter, Barbara Zabel and her husband Frank, Troy, NY; a stepson, Frank Spatafora, Troy, NY; 10 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

    He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cassandra Shoffner and a son in law, Paul Portonova.

    The funeral will be Saturday with Services at 10 a.m. in the Green Ridge Assembly of God Church, by the Rev. Roi Emiliani, Pastor of the Glorious Church, Long Pond. Interment, Madisonville Union Cemetery, Madisonville. Friends attending the services are asked to go directly to the church.

    Friends may call Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, Scranton. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County, 301 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant, PA 18447-1531.
