Bert Wallach "Billy" Johnson, Jr., 42, a resident of Scranton died early Wednesday morning in the VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center after a brief illness. He and his wife the former Edwina T. Smith would have celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary December 31, 2006.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the Reverend Bert Wallach Johnson, Sr., FL and the late Monica Helena Lawrence Johnson.
He was involved with many community activities and was a very giving person who enjoyed helping others. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be missed.
Also surviving are two sons, Anthony and Donald, both at home; a brother, Derrick Johnson, NY; two sisters, Catherine Johnson and Nadine Johnson, both of NC; two goddaughters, Latasha Wilson, Scranton and Monique Wilson, NY; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a sister Crystal Johnson.
Cremation was held at the Maple Hill Crematory. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services by Rev. Arthur P. Davis, Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Christ, Taylor.
