Gladys M. Botke

    Gladys M. Botke, 96, a longtime resident of South Scranton, died Tuesday morning in the Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. She was the widow of Lawrence C. Botke who died November 12, 1980.

    She was born in White Mills, the daughter of the late Arthur and Florence Whiteman Firmstone. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and the South Side Seniors Center. Prior to retirement she was employed by the Petersburg Silk Mill.

    She enjoyed her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sister and all of her extended family.

    Surviving is a daughter, Laraine C. Beck and her husband Ralph, Scranton; a son, William E. Botke and his wife Annette, Clarks Summit; three sisters, Elsie Burns, Brownstown, MI, Dorothy Smith, Scranton, Bertha Dickerman, Corning, NY; a brother, John Firmstone, White Mills; five grandchildren, Lawrence Beck, William T. Botke and his wife Erin, Deborah Botke, Lynne R. Davis and her husband Thomas, Laraine T. Pankevitch and her husband Jeremy; five great grandchildren, Zachary Beck, Robert Pankevitch, Matthew Pankevitch, Thomas Davis Jr. and Angel Rose Davis; several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Busher, Mabel Scott, Ada Schwartz; two brothers, George Firmstone and Edmund Firmstone.

    The funeral will be Friday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services at 1:00 p.m. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Township.
