Kevin John Murphy, 33, a resident of Drums, formerly of Scranton, drowned Tuesday afternoon in Beech Mountain Lakes after trying to save his companion Charlotte Campo’s son, James, who was caught in the current of a swollen spillway. James also drowned.
He was born in Scranton, the son of Frank and Venita MacNab Murphy, Scranton. He attended William Prescott, East Scranton Junior High School and was a graduate of Central High School class of 1991. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Scranton Local #229, Beech Mountain Lakes Association and was a coach for the Valley East Little League for the team Lions. He was a truck driver for Sathers, APA, Red Star and presently employed by Roadway Express.
Also surviving is his companion Charlotte Campo and her children Tito and John, Drums; a sister, Christine Bowers and her husband Randy, Old Forge; a brother, Brian Murphy and his wife Michele, Scranton; 3 nephews, A.J. Gallucci, Brandon Gallucci and Colin Bowers, all of Old Forge; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Alexander and Josephine Bronowicz MacNab, Scranton and paternal grandparents, John L. and Sarah Snee Murphy, Sr., Carbondale.
Cremation took place at the Maple Hill Crematory, Wilkes Barre.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 12 noon in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, pastor of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Interment, will be private at the convenience of the family.
