Dorothy S. Brown

    Dorothy S. Brown, 96, a lifelong resident of the Petersburg section of Scranton, died early Sunday morning in the Mercy Hospital Inpatient Hospice unit after a brief illness.

    She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Emma Fuhrey Schwartz. She was a lifelong member of the former Petersburg Presbyterian Church which then merged with the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Prior to retirement she was employed by Dr. Joseph O’Brien and Dr. and Mrs. Joseph O’Brien for over 55 years.

    Surviving is a daughter, Betty Lou Kevitz and her husband John Sr., Scranton; a son Robert E. Brown, with whom she resided, Scranton; a daughter in law, Constance Brown, Archbald; five grandchildren, David A. Brown and his wife Donna, Dr. Richard A. Brown and his wife Consuela, Steven R. Brown, Amy L. Brown, John J. Kevitz Jr. and his wife Davone; five great grandchildren and two nieces.

    She was preceded in death by a son Francis "Butch" Brown and a sister Louise Davis.

    The funeral will be Tuesday in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with services at 11 a.m. by the Reverend Tom H. Collins, Pastor of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Interment, will be private at the convenience of the family.
