Muriel Lydia Hartman, 86, a lifelong resident of the East Mountain section of Scranton, died Tuesday evening in the Mountain View Care Center after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of George P. Hartman who died November 10, 2000.
She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Harold and Mary Schield Hafner. She was a member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church where she had also served as a Deacon, an Elder and a Sunday School teacher. She graduated from Scranton Technical High School and attended Keystone Junior College. Prior to retirement she had been employed by the Heinz Store, Scranton, Casual Sportswear and Spencer Associates as an examiner.
She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed wonderful times with her grandsons and great grandson.
Her name Muriel signifies "Myrrh" the fragrance of God. She will be missed, but her love will live on.
Surviving is a daughter, Nancy Lee Komora, Scranton; two sisters, Ruth Patterson, Effort, Caroline Hartman and her husband Wesley, Scranton; two grandsons, Edward Kevin Komora, Scranton, Brian Stephen Komora and his wife Christina, Scranton; a great grandson, Ethan Connor Komora; several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother Carl Harold Hafner.
Cremation services were held and the interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday at11:00 a.m. in the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory Street, with Services by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, Pastor. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Mountain View Care Center, 2309 Stafford Avenue, Scranton, PA 18505-3686.
