Robert Francis Buntz, 44, a resident of the East Mountain section of Scranton, died Saturday morning in the Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born August 20, 1962 in Scranton, the son of John and Ellen McGuire Buntz, Scranton. He was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Church. He graduated as a member of the National Honor Society from Scranton Central High School, Class of 1980, received his associates degree from Penn State, Worthington Campus, Scranton, a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Binghamton and he received a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Marywood College. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop #16, where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout, a member of the Eastern Conference Champions at Central High School football team in 1979 and played basketball. He also played the bass guitar in numerous local bands. Prior to his illness he was employed for many years as a mechanical engineer for the Dana Corporation, Berwick.
He had a great sense of humor, was liked by all and will truly be missed by his family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies.
Also surviving are a brother Brian J. Buntz, Scranton; a nephew John B. Buntz, Scranton; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents John and Mildred Lang Buntz..
The Funeral will be Wednesday at 11a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Assumption Church. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Covington Township.
Friends may call Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m.
