
John Rempe

John Rempe, 89, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Tuesday afternoon at home. He was the widow of Coletta Ganz Rempe who died January 24, 1988.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Henry and Mary Christ Rempe. He was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, a veteran of WW II serving with the US Army in the Philippines where he received two bronze medals and the Victory Medal. He was a member of the Major Edward J. Poch American legion Post #948. Prior to retirement he was employed for over 40 years as a blacksmith for Sprague and Henwood.
His faith sustained his many health struggles. He loved the rosary- anyone reading this can say one for him. He loved watching sports of any kind and was proud of his grandchildren's accomplishments. The family would like to express their thanks to the dialysis unit of DaVita Old Forge and Keyser Van.
Surviving are five daughters, MaryAnn McAndrew and her husband Martin, JoAnn Hricenak and her husband Dennis, Sally and Susan Rempe and Janet Story, all of Scranton; a son, John Rempe and his wife Eileen, Scranton; eleven grandchildren, Thomas and Kelly McAndrew, Amy Poindexter, Kristen, April and Dennis Hricenak and his fiancée Mary Beth Morley whom John was going to be the best man at the wedding, Jennifer Parr, Michelle Woodall, Coletta, Allison and John Rempe III; six great grandchildren, Nicole and Kristina Carone and Jordan Poindexter, Rachel and Jessica Parr, Dylan Thomas McAndrew; a brother, Joseph Rempe, Scranton and a brother-in-law, Nicholas Ganz, who was like a brother to him; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Peter, and Henry; three sisters, Marie Cali, Louise Walsh and Sister Lartitia, Sister of Christian Charity.
The funeral will be Friday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, 430 River Street. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the parish cemetery.
Friends wishing to celebrate his life can attend a viewing which will be Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Keyser Van, 1308 N. Keyser Ave, Scranton, PA. 18504-9733 for the transportation of dialysis patients.
