Eleanor Osborne Tansits, R.N.

    Eleanor Osborne Tansits, R.N., a longtime resident of East Mountain, died Sunday afternoon, in the Inpatient Hospice Unit of the Mercy Hospital following an illness. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles J. Tansits, Jr. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 15th.

    She was born in South Scranton, the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Becker Osborne. She was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, class of 1941, and St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, class of 1943. She was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church, served as an Ensign and Registered Nurse in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during World War II, a life member of the Major Edward J. Poch Post American Legion, #948. For many years, she worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital, Mercy Heights Hospital, and the Mercy Hospital. She was an exceptional nurse and truly enjoyed her practice. She was a 2-gallon blood donor to the American Red Cross.

    Eleanor was affectionate, fun-loving and devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her family has many happy and fond memories of a beautiful person. She will be remembered for an endearing smile that made her eyes dance! She will be remembered for her kindness, love, and generosity as well as for her chocolate chip cookies!

    Surviving are two daughters, Mariellen Kaeb and husband Brian, Clarks Summit; Dr. Gloria Wenze, Moscow; three sons, Tom and wife Chris, Scranton; Ron and wife, Diane, Greenfield Township, Chuck and wife Janice, Horsham; thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Bauer, Levittown; two brothers, Tom Osborne, Scranton, John Osborne and wife Bette, Scranton; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

    She is preceded in death by a sister, Marion Gallagher; two brothers, Billy Osborne, Jerry Osborne; a son-in-law, Bishop J. Wenze.

    The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the caring staffs of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, the Jewish Home, and the Hospice Unit of the Mercy Hospital.

    The funeral will be Thursday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Name of Jesus Church, corners of East Elm Street and Froude Avenue. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

    Friends may call Wednesday 5 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 130 Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702-6704.
