Henry R. "Hank" Schild, 84, a resident of Scranton, formerly of the Greenwood Section of Moosic, died Thursday morning in the VNA hospice inpatient unit at Moses Taylor Hospital. His first wife the former Elizabeth C. Fanning died October 4, 1970, his second wife the former Doris J. Seeger died March 1, 2001.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Henry M. and Gertrude R. Sohns Schild. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School class of 1941, a member of St. Ann's Basilica and Saint Joseph’s Church, Minooka and a veteran of WW II serving with the United States Army. He was a member of the Moosic Lions Club and former officer, a member and volunteer fireman with the Greenwood Hose Company and former officer and a board member of the St. Ann's Monastery Credit Union. He had been employed Sprague & Henwood and prior to retirement by the Summit Hill Marble and Granite Company.
He was known as a great volunteer always willing to help, a dedicated blood donor, a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
Surviving five daughters, Dolores T. Lavelle and her husband William, Scranton, Patricia A. Schild, Ocean City, NJ, Donna M. Kropa and her husband Richard, Dickson City, Betty J. Rickert and her husband Clem, Scranton, Theresa J. Baux and her husband Tom, Scranton; a stepson, David B. Schultz, Chinchilla; a stepdaughter, Debbie M. Schultz, Upland, CA; three sister in laws, Gerry Bracey, Moscow, Ann Schild Regan, Dickson City and Lois Schild, Scranton; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Arthur J. Schild and Elmer Schild.
The Funeral will be Monday at 9:30 from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica, 1250 St. Ann's Street, Scranton. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of floral arrangements memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Greenwood Hose Company, 3729 Birney Avenue, Moosic PA 18507 or to the Moosic Lions Club, 1029 Springbrook Road, Moosic PA 18507.
