Jean Dorothy Wall, 93, of Scranton, a former resident of Factoryville for many years, died Sunday afternoon after a lengthy illness. She and her husband, William Gorton Wall, who died June 19, 2003 had been married for 68 years.
She was born October 21, 1913 in Plymouth and raised in Dunmore, the daughter of the late Evan R. and Laura Olive Schauley Lewis. She was a graduate of the Dunmore High School Class of 1931 and attended Lackawanna Junior College for business. She was a member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Factoryville United Methodist Church for over 50 years, the ladies auxiliary, a member of the VFW, Ladies Auxiliary, Clarks Summit and a member of Factoryville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Prior to retirement she had been employed by, Davis & Jones Insurance Agency, Lackawanna Trail High School as a secretary and as Judge of Elections, Factoryville.
She died Sunday afternoon at home, holding her daughters hand and surrounded by her friends. Her children remember the hard work she did on the family farm doing many chores, raising her children and even sewing their clothing and coats. She enjoyed caring for her family, everyone from the youngest to the eldest. She was a humble person sacrificing of herself and never asking for help or complaining. She enjoyed entertaining and traveling with her husband and friends, and reminiscing about the dances at the Fleetville Pavilion when she and her husband were dating. She enjoyed the company of her daughters dog, Benny and also of her own dog Missy, who sadly, preceded her.
The family would like to thank all the people who helped to take such wonderful care of her, including the CMC Hospice Unit, the CMC Hospital, the Mountain View Nursing Care Center, Allied Rehabilitation Services, Mercy Home Health and the Hartland Home Health and Hospice Care. Her primary care physicians Dr. Michael Alocci and associates, Dr. Richard Weinberger, Dr. Kenneth Gentilezza and associates. Also, Jane Schroeder, Pat Worrell, Karen Hoffman, Vivian Pitchford, Nettie Glover, Donna Carroll, Ashley Carroll, Mabel Bartosch, Krista Bartosch, Marlene Campbell, Rose Gouck, Margrit Bareihs, Cathy Housley, Steve Svetovich, Carol Smith and her daughters. Thank you, for all your loving care.
Surviving is a daughter Linda Rosengrant-Lohrey and her husband Norman, with whom she resided and they were her primary care givers, Scranton; a son Richard William Wall and his wife Nela, Hampton, VA; three grandsons, two great granddaughters, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Norman Lewis.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Services by the Reverend Tom H. Collins, pastor of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Pittston Avenue Cemetery, Scranton.
