Mary Frances Strelecki, a longtime resident of Scranton, died Wednesday morning in the VNA Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the widow John "Chick" Strelecki who died February 26, 1990.
She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Frances Ventiniglia Zarzana. She was educated in Brooklyn, NY schools and lived in Brooklyn, NY before returning to Scranton. She was member of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, South Scranton, the Red Hat Society, the After Fifty Club and the Young at Heart Club. Prior to retirement she had been employed locally by Gold Star Manufacturing, its predecessors and the Sauquoit Silk Mill.
Prior to her passing, with her son, daughter-in-law and grandson at her side, she gave her heart to the Lord. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
Surviving is a daughter, Frances "Frannie" Fasano, Scranton; two sons, Joseph Fasano and his wife Cathy, Scranton, Salvatore Strelecki and his wife Donna, Pittston; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one expected soon who will be Mary’s namesake; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Antoinette Fasano; a son, Richard Fasano; seven sisters, Angelina, Rose, Anna, Rosalie, Lily, Frances and Josephine; four brothers, Sylvester, Joseph, Barney and Bennie.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with mass at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Avenue. Interment, Italian American Cemetery, Scranton.
