Girard J. Andres

    Girard J. Andres’s journey of 88 years ended late Sunday evening in the Inpatient Hospice Unit of the Mercy Hospital. He and his wife, the former Ruth Bohrer celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary March 3, 2007.

    He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Ernest and Beatrice O’Boyle Andres. He was educated in Scranton public schools, a graduate from Central High School and a WW II veteran who served with the US Army from July 1941 to September 1945. He served his country at the attack on Pearl Harbor and throughout the Pacific Theater. Prior to retirement he was the co owner and operator of O’Toole and Andres Bar, a landmark Scranton establishment for 50 years.

    He was a loving and devoted husband who lived for his family. His constant devotion and interest in family were his hallmark. He possessed the qualities of honesty, loyalty and compassion which he instilled in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family was his legacy and he was proud of their accomplishments and excited about their ability to make the world a happier and better place. He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

    Also surviving are his children, a daughter, Carol and husband Frank Cappelloni, Scranton, a daughter Nancy and husband Michael Bunkac, Maryland, a son, Girard Andres and wife Pattiann, Virginia; a brother Robert Andres, Scranton; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded by two brothers, William Andres, Joseph Andres and a sister Mary Barrett.

    The funeral and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing hours.
