Gregory Thomas Conlon, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died late Thursday evening in the Moses Taylor Hospital shortly after arrival. He and his wife the former Mary Richwalder would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on May 30th.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Thomas and Julia Buhrman Conlon. He was a graduate of Saint Patrick High School Class of 1947, a member of Saint Patrick Church and the Holy Name Society. He was a Eucharistic Minister and very active in the church. He was employed as a City of Scranton firefighter for 41 years before retiring as District Fire Chief. He was a member of the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and the Fireman’s Goodwill Club.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
Also surviving are five children, John Conlon and his wife Kathy, Old Forge, Gregory Conlon and his wife Nancy, Ardmore, Margaret Conlon, Scranton, Ann Marie Southard and her husband Robert, Scranton and Paul Conlon, Scranton; four grandchildren Kelly Conlon, Christian Conlon, Bobby Southard and Kristen Southard.
The funeral will be Monday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Patrick Church, 1403 Jackson Street. The interment will be private in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
