Ruth L. Sunday, 80, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died late Wednesday evening in the VNA Hospice Inpatient unit at Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Warren P. Sunday who died August 11, 2003. They had been married 56 years at the time of his death.
She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Ellsworth and Charlotte Kirchhoff Coursen. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1943, was Class Secretary, attended Lackawanna Business College and was a member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Where she served as a deacon, past treasurer of the Women of Hickory, a member of the Adult fellowship, Sebert Schneider Sunday School Class, and the DL club.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family, friends and church. She was known for her kindness, courageousness and loyalty to family and friends. She will be sadly missed.
The family would like to thank the Special Care Unit at the Mercy Hospital, the staff at the Mountain View Care Center and the VNA Hospice staff at the Community Medical Center for their care and kindness.
Surviving are a son, Curtis P. Sunday and his wife Rosalyn, Coral Springs, FL; a daughter, Lynne C. Reap and her husband Brian, Scranton; four grandchildren, Cara Reap-Lavelle and her husband Michael, Clarks Summit, Kyle Reap, Philadelphia, Bryan Sunday, FL, Jaimie Sunday, FL and cousins.
The funeral will be Saturday with services at 11 a.m. in the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory Street, by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, pastor. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory Street, Scranton, PA 18505-1113.
