Virginia Frankenfield

    Virginia Frankenfield a resident of Scranton, died Sunday at the Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY. She was the widow of Lewis Frankenfield who died September 4, 1973.

    She was born in Bethlehem, the daughter of the late Charles C. and Josephine Hartman Schrader. Before becoming a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and a past member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church Vestry and Choir, she was choir director and organist at the Episcopal Trinity Mission, East Mountain. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, Class of 1936, a lifetime member of the Central High School Alumnae and attended the University of Scranton and Marywood University.

    Prior to her retirement she was employed by AKZO Nobel, formerly the International Salt Company and afterwards she was nanny to Craig Washo, son of Craig and Mary Grace Washo of Scranton.

    Since 1975, at various times, she had served as treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and was named Mercy Auxilian in 1990. She served on the Board of Directors of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Hospital Auxiliaries. She was past president, vice president, and treasurer of PAHA (Pennsylvania Association of Health Care Auxiliaries).

    Over the years she was also active in local choral and theater groups and won many trophies in ballroom dancing competitions.

    Surviving are her three daughters, Joyce Ellen Wells and husband, Ralph, Jacksonville, FL; Linda Lou Mogray and husband, Harry (Skip), Webster, NY, Jane Frankenfield Zanin and husband, Roberto, Venice, Italy; her four grandchildren, Susan Barnett, Alan Dekin, Rudy Wells and wife Tonya, Nicola Zanin; eleven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Myers, Scranton.

    She was preceded in death by her sisters, Violet Hower, Evelyn Hower, and Pearl Timlin; and two grandchildren, Lisa Dekin and Randy Wells.

    The funeral will be Saturday at 9:45 a.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 232 Wyoming Avenue, with services by the Reverend Peter D. D’Angio, Pastor. Anyone attending the funeral service is asked to go directly to the church.

    Friends may call Friday 5 to 8 p.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, 436 Cedar Avenue.
