Richard A. Thomas, a resident of Scranton, died Friday morning in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at the Community Medical Center. His first wife, the former Mary D. Shea, died July 21, 1975. He and his second wife the former Jean Satterthwaite Allen have been married thirty years.
He was born in Scranton, the son of the late George and Gertrude Steimitz Thomas. He was of the protestant faith, a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a Veteran of WW II serving with the United States Navy. He was a member of the South Scranton Bachelors Club and the T. A. Golf league at Pine Hills Country Club. Prior to retirement he was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service.
Also surviving are four daughters, Kathleen Hinkle, Harrisburg, Susan Hanley, Scranton, Ruth Tylutki, Factoryville and Mary Cook, Clarks Summit; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother George.
As was his request, Cremation Services were held at the Maple Hill Crematory. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the American Lung Association of Northeastern PA, 738 South Main Avenue, Scranton, PA 18504-2145.
