Dorothy R. "Dot" Murphy, 89, a longtime resident of the East Mountain section of Scranton died Tuesday afternoon in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit, Dunmore. She was the widow of John "Murph" Murphy who died August 2, 1975.
She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Richard and Theresa McAndrew Kadgen. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church and prior to retirement had been employed by the Tom Taylor Sporting Goods Store which was located on Adams Avenue.
She was a very "special" mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt who will be greatly missed by all who knew her and who's heart she touched.
The family would like to thank Hospice Community Care for there kind, compassionate care.
Surviving are three daughters, Eileen Avery and her husband Frank, Asheville, NC; Sharon Marion and her husband Edward, Archbald, Debra Lettieri and her husband Joseph, Scranton; six grandchildren, Bonnie Lynch, Atlanta, GA, Sharon Weber and her husband Mark, Atlanta, GA, John Avery and his wife Kristin, Tallahassee, FL, Eddie Marion and his wife Anna, Archbald, Corey Lettieri and his wife Kelly, Dunmore, Julie Lettieri, Scranton; eight grandchildren, Taylor Lynch, Paige Lynch, Emily Weber, Sarah Weber and Brian Weber all of Atlanta, GA, Alyssa Marion, Brock Marion, both of Archbald and Brady Lettieri, Dunmore; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Gilvary, Margaret Kadgen and Helen Secor; a brother Joseph Kadgen; a grandson, Brian Avery.
The Funeral will be Saturday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, at the corner of East Elm Street and Froude Avenue. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
