James Pennington

    James Monroe Pennington, 71, a resident of Scranton, formerly of Saxonburg, died Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter and son in law, after and illness.

    He was born in Mars, PA the son of the late Nim R. "Buck" and Evelyn G. Murray Pennington. He was a member of the F. & A. M., Butler Lodge No. 272, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of New Castle and the Syria Shriners of Pittsburgh. He was retired from the US Navy and after retiring from the Navy worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Pittsburgh.

    The Family would like to thank Hospice Community Care for their kind and compassionate care.

    Surviving are three daughters, Tamara Pilger and her husband William, Scranton, Diane Spath, Gibsonia, Vada Boland, Gibsonia; two sons, James R. Pennington, Gibsonia, Marty Pennington, Gibsonia; two sisters, Elaine Pennington Nase, Russellton, Eleinore Kane, Sarver; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles "Bucky" Pennington; a step granddaughter, Erica J. Pilger.

    Cremation took place at the Maple Hill Crematory. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 20th at 5:00 p.m. in the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory Street, with Services by the Rev. Tom H. Collins, pastor. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to his family, C/O Tamara Pilger, Rear 623 Alder Street, Scranton, PA 18505.
