Dorothy Esther Hartranft Herbert

    Dorothy Esther Hartranft Herbert, 95, went home to be with her Lord on November 26, 2007. She was the widow of James Herbert who passed away January 12, 1976.

    She was a lifetime resident of Scranton, the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Mary Elizabeth Schoesche Hartranft. She was educated in the Scranton School District. She was a member of the former Emanuel Baptist Church and in later years attended the Grace and Hope Mission.

    Her role as a mother and homemaker were her first priorities. She was a loving, godly mother and grandmother who was always thinking of others. She worked for a short time at the former Scranton State Hospital. For many years she was a care giver for many people who loved her dearly.

    The Scripture in Proverbs 31:10-29 exemplified her life.

    She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed but we will be rejoicing with her as she goes home to be with the Lord.

    She was the mother of four children, Thomas Herbert and his wife Frances, Justus, Diane Laird and her husband John, Moscow, May Miller and her husband Albert, Nicholson, Ronald Neal Herbert who passed away July 7, 1974; a daughter in law Carolyn Herbert Clark, Mount Cobb 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Hartranft, Harold Hartranft; four sisters, Myrtle Morgan, Isabelle Rozelle, Florence Hughes and Verna Geier.

    The Funeral will be Monday at 11:00 am in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Services by Pastor Dave Culver of Heritage Baptist Church, Clarks Summit. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

    Friends may call Monday 9 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Saint Mary’s Villa Nursing Home, 675 Saint Mary’s Villa Road, Moscow PA 18444, or the donors choice of charity.
