Earl F. Gleichman Jr.

    Earl F. Gleichman Jr., 80, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died unexpectedly Monday morning at home. He and his wife the former Lucille Butterman celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on October 8, 2007.

    He was born in Scranton, the son of the late Earl and Caroline Hafner Gleichman. He was a lifelong member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII, was a member of the American Legion Major Edward J. Poch Post #948, South Scranton, the Disabled American Veterans, the Shrine Club of Scranton, and in 2003 celebrated fifty years of membership in the F. & A.M, Hyde Park Lodge. He was also a member of the Keystone Consistory, the Irem Temple Country Club and Provost Guard. He was employed by Capitol records and retired from Air Products, Wilkes Barre.

    He was a very compassionate and giving man, a loving husband and father. He enjoyed baseball and bowling. He played baseball and later became a local softball umpire.

    Also surviving is a son, Gary E. Gleichman, Fort Madison, Iowa.

    The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Services by the Reverend Tom H. Collins, pastor of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Township.

    Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. The Irem Temple Provost Guard will conduct a service at 7:15 p.m.. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory Street, Scranton, PA 18505-1113.
