Irene Wintermantel, 79, a longtime resident of Clarks Summit, died Monday morning in the Mercy Hospital after a long illness. She and her husband John Wintermantel celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on February 12, 2007.
She was born on July 18, 1928 in Dunmore, the daughter of the late John and Mary Yuskanich Rokita. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1946, a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit and prior to retirement had been employed as a secretary by the International Correspondence Schools.
Also surviving are a daughter, Karen Slayton, McGaheysville, VA, a son John Wintermantel and his wife Lisa, Olean, NY; four grandchildren, Shelby Slayton, Samuel Slayton, Katherine Wintermantel and Sarah Wintermantel; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Rokita and Elmer Rokita; three sisters, Mary Moore, Helen Toney and Ann Rokita.
The Funeral will be Thursday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, 436 Cedar Avenue, Scranton with Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 South State Street, Clarks Summit. Interment Saint Catherine's Cemetery, Covington Township.
