Jean M. Rosar, 89, a resident of Scranton, a former resident of Clarks Summit, entered into eternal rest Saturday afternoon after a brief illness. She resided at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, for the past six years and was the widow of Kirby E. Rosar who died March 31, 1982.
She was born May 8, 1918 in Scranton, the daughter of the late Daniel P. and Anne V. Duggan Ryder. She attended Our Lady of the Snows Church while she resided in Clarks Summit and most recently was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral, Scranton. She attended St. Cecilia's Academy, was a graduate of Scranton Central High School Class of 1936 and a graduate of King's County School of Nursing, Brooklyn, NY, Class of 1939. Shortly after graduation from nursing school, she enlisted in the US Army Nurse Corps and was stationed with the 37th General Hospital in the European Theater during WW II, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. While serving her country she received numerous ribbons and accommodations. She was a member of the VFW Post #7069, Clarks Summit and supported the veterans of the Vietnam era. Prior to retirement she had worked as a private duty nurse.
She was true Catholic who had great faith. She loved reading, participating in chorus, playing bingo and art classes. Some of her art was recently displayed at the Everhart Museum. While at the Gino Merli Veteran Center she was a member of the PEER group serving as a liaison for fellow residents. She had a great rapport with the loving and caring staff who took wonderful care of our mother. She made many great friends while living at the Gino Merli. Most of all she enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought her much joy and happiness. She will be deeply missed by all those who loved and knew her.
Surviving are her children, Barbara Hudack and her husband Paul, Clarks Summit, Joseph Rosar, East Mountain, Scranton, Daniel Rosar and his wife Christa, Olyphant, Ellen McDermott and her husband Tim, Scranton; a brother, Joseph Ryder, Scranton; a daughter in law, Linda Rosar; eight grandchildren, Paul Hudack, Jennifer Rosencrance, Melissa Rosar, Joseph Rosar, Lindsey Rosar, Tonette Nichols, Tim McDermott and Lauren McDermott; three great grandchildren, Harlie Rosencrance, Jolienne Rosencrance and Will Nichols; sister in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Ryder; three brothers, Thomas Ryder, Attorney Richard Ryder and John "Jack" Ryder, who died on December 23, 2007.
The funeral will be Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, with Mass at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Peter's Cathedral, 300 Wyoming Avenue. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
