Doris Cron, 84, a life long resident of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, who recently had moved to Mulberry Tower, died Friday evening in the Mercy Hospital Inpatient Unit after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the widow of Carl "Jim" Cron Sr. They had been married 49 years when he died on February 8, 1995.

She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late William and Mary Craig Hitchings, a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, Scranton. Prior to retirement she had been employed by the Scranton Lace Company.

 She was an avid reader and animal lover who enjoyed the company of her pet bird, a Lorry named Cleo. She was a kind and loving mom, grandma and great grandma. She took pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of the Mercy Hospice Unit for the respect and loving care they provided during this most difficult time.

Surviving are a daughter Sharon Schuler and her husband Herb; a son, Carl "Jim" Cron Jr., and his wife Joann, Scranton; four grandchildren, Andrea Chumley, Karl Schuler and his wife Natalie, Jocelyn Bailey and her husband Donald, Jeremy Cron. Three great grandchildren, Valerie Grenier, Jessica Grenier and Michael Chumley; several nieces and nephews including Tom and his wife Carol Cron with whom she was especially close.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Cron.

The Funeral will be Tuesday with services at 10 am in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc, 436 Cedar Avenue. Interment, Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.

Friends may call on Monday 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Trinity Baptist Church, 1546 Monsey Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509.
