Anthony J. Wolfe, 82, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Friday evening at home. He and his wife, the former Jean Gahn, would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on October 18th.
He was born on August 15, 1925 in Scranton, the son of the late Louis and Bella Cavanaugh Wolfe. He was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church, a graduate of Scranton Central High School, Class of 1943 and a Veteran of World War II serving in the Eighth Air Force in England. He was a graduate of the University of Scranton and the Executive Graduate Program in Health Care, Financial Management at Ohio State University. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Wolfe was the Director of Finance at the Visiting Nurse and Home Health Maintenance Organization of Scranton.
Surviving are two daughters, Gretchen Raebel and her husband Kenneth, Scranton, Christine Auriemma and her husband Dr. William Auriemma, Clarks Summit; a brother James Wolfe and his wife Shirley; eight grandchildren: Megan, Kyle, Matthew, Adam, and Eric Raebel and Tyler, Alexandra and Alyssa Auriemma; several nieces and nephews and in-laws: Joan Wolfe, Marion and Roy Hopkins, Dorothy and Harold Bowers.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas F. Wolfe; a nephew, Brian R. Wolfe.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of AseraCare Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Name of Jesus Church, corner of Froude Avenue and East Elm Street. Those who will be attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Miller Bean Funeral Home, Inc, 436 Cedar Avenue. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions can be made in his memory the St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Avenue, Scranton PA 18509-3116 or to the donors charity of choice.
